Will.I.Am Interview

For the exit of its 1st album solo entitled "Songs Girls Butt", the leader of Black Eyed Peas was of passage in Paris last September. 1st individual "I Got It From My Mama" met a frank success near the fans for its festive environment and c’est thus in a relaxed atmosphere that Will.I.Am s’est delivered to the play of the answers questions for RnBjam.

Can you say some to us more on the concept of your album solo ?
This album recalls my life of 20 years l’âge jusqu’à my 30 years, my various relations with the women of which my last adventure which lasted close to 8ans. My songs spoke about these women d’où the title "Songs About Girls". In fact, j’ai carried out two albums at the same time because I did not know which orientation I was to take. Before launching me my solo project, j’ai worked with many artists like Nas, The Game, Common, Snoop or 50 Hundreds but also with artists such as Michael Jackson, Macy Gray, Ciara or Kelis. Thus I said myself: "if I can carry out as varied titles the ones as the others, than should I make for me? ". Then d’un side I made "Songs About Girls" and of l’autre "Black Eyed Style". In this last there are sounds with Nas, kanye, Common, Too Short, Snoop and d’autres rappeurs but it will not leave out of CD. I explain you: "Songs About Girls" is available in 2 different ways. You can CD l’acheter but you can also download it on the site www.blackeyedpeas.com. Then, there are not remained any more qu’à to put l’album in the form of "player" on one of your pages like Myspace or Facebook and with each time quelqu’un comes to download l’album, you will also gain l’argent! For "Black Eyed Style", that will function similar!

Why n’y does it only have qu’un featuring on this album? (note: "The Donque Song" featuring Snoop Dogg)
Because c’est a very personal album. I wanted to only make quelquechose, without collaborating with d’autres artists like j’ai been able to do it with the members of Black Eyed Peas. Fergie succeeded, now see what me I can do!

In the final analysis, c’est an autobiographical album, which justifies the fact that you are only the producteur…
Not, Polow Da Don and Fernando Garibay also produced 2 songs each one on this album. J’ai makes the remainder myself.

And can you say which to us will be the next individual one?
One More Chance, precisely produced by Fernando Garibay.

You master keys enormously of time on scene or in studio, always to make music. But qu’en is it of your personal life?
Really difficult C’est! Even moments ago when I dispute with my girlfriend, she shouts me above and d’un blow I say to him: "Waits, it is necessary that j’écrive a trick there" (laughter) and after I am made insult of all the names! (laughter)

Thus you cannot t’arrêter make musique…
Not, because all can m’inspirer! C’est very well in studio for the productivity but at the house c’est really quelquechose qu’il is better to avoid.

C’est for that which you do wish to diversify in the years to come?
Yes bus much of things will change. There will be considerable new technologies qu’il will be then possible d’exploiter. The world of the portable telephones, store them, the cinema or l’internet will be sectors which will be able d’avantage to integrate music. There is still much to make and imagine! I work d’ailleurs on a "jacket CD" which will integrate l’album "Black Eyed Style" and which you will be able to even connect with your PC! C’est for bientôt…

Can you speak to us about your work in studio? Do you have to proceed in the same way qu’avec Black Eyed Peas?
J’ai always worked with the same team, of the people of confidence able to make me open the eyes on my work. Sometimes I pass 7 to 8 a.m. on same the beat believing to hold a hit and a pal unloads and balances me that my sound is null! C’est as that which we recorded two songs for my album solo. This title "Good Girl Gone Bad" represents to some extent my freedom, in terms of creativity. I have really made that I wanted, it does not matter what people waited of me, or it with what they wanted that I resemble, this album is really what I am. I wanted to show who I am through this album. And with which you collaborated for this album? I thus worked with Jay Z I also recorded a duet with -Yo, produced by Stargate with which one collaborated on two pieces in the final one. I also worked with Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, JR Rottem. Don't Stargate, Timbaland... You think that in this moment all artists R&B have the same producers on their albums, and that final all the albums a little resemble? I would not say Ca, but if you think it it is a question of tastes... It is also that many artists want to work with the best. Stargate is super producers, Timbaland it is the best and it is for that that I work with them, because I want the best! You are only 19 years old, which your career in your life of girl brings to you? My career excites me much, by all that arrives to me. It is true that times I want to escape to me and return at home, but with final I am very happy like that! And you have time to return to see your family? Approximately 3 times per annum yes, in Christmas for example. Unfortunately I cannot see them more, but each day I have them with the telephone, and I keep a very privileged contact with them and my friends. Did this new album surprises by the diversity of the sounds which are present, your 1st individual "Umbrella" then the individual 2nd "Shut Up And Drive" which is very pop rock'n'roll, how you manage from there to want to sing on this kind of music? I did not want to have plans or restrictions on this album. I wanted to amuse me in studio, and that the final result is the reflection of what I am. It does not matter if that does not answer waitings, bus with final it is a very natural album and I am sure that Ca will like! I am content with the result, it is an album which moves, which shows that I evolved/moved, and I wanted to show my side Bad Girl, from where the title of the album... Did you test a certain pressure before the exit of this album? Of course that I felt a certain pressure, it is my third album and the two first thus went rather well there is inevitably a pressure. I wanted to break my image, and to bring a sincere album, therefore I invested myself much. But with each time I reversed in a project it is this pressure which pushes to me to better do the following time. You speak about an evolution, of maturity, but of rebélion too. Which kind of "Bad Girl" are you? I want to make the things with my way, as I hear it. I am limited and obstinate, if somebody wants to make me do something and that I feel forced to do it, I would make all the opposite inevitably. But only because I believe in me, and my decisions, and most of the time it goes. And if Ca does not go? And well if that does not go, I try to learn from this failure. Why to have chosen "Umbrella" like 1st individual? Because that represents a true artistic turning, and it was the best means of showing it with my public, as of the 1st individual one. How I like in this title it is that people have evil to place it in a category, it is very different, but that returns in the head! I adore this song! And why Jay-Z? Jay-Z was not to be on "Umbrella", it was not y to have featuring besides, but as he is a producer of the album he came to listen to the song, he adored, and it is him which wanted to pose above. It thus recorded its part, and everyone adored. And the idea of the clip? I wanted a clip which sticks perfectly with the song and which can show my evolution, the best means was thus a true performance in this video. I find that it is a very artistic clip, very quite carried out where one can feel various influences like the rock'n'roll for example. It was the means of presenting the Rihanna news. While speaking about your new image, you radically changed, even of hairstyle, and you are undressed than when one discovered you where you affirmed that your mother did not want that you would be too sexy. Is it an important point for you? All did these changes come very naturellment, that it is the style, the image, the music, it is really the reflection of my evolution? I grew, and I wanted to remain faithful so that I am, and authentic being. Last year you with the "Academy Star", whom do you think of all these young singers sang who want to bore by this way? I include/understand completely, when one wants to become singer, one feels it with deepest of oneself, and one chooses all the possible means to arrive there. Does television offer this new chance to reach that point, then why not to seize it? Do you have councils to give them? Well-sure, it is necessary that they keep in mind that it is enormously of work, that it is not always also amusing which it does not appear to with it, but that one is rewarded by doing something that one likes, and who impassions us, this is why the arms never should be lowered. Is your album really directed Pop/R&B and any more caribéen, why this choice? In fact when you listenings the album you realize that there are still many caribéennes influences in certain songs, and in any event I never made all my songs in the same way, I never made an album which sounds with 100% caribéen. It is a part of me which I cannot put on side, and one realizes in several songs there, even in "Umbrella", the way in which I sing the "hey hey hey" it is an accent very caribéen, but that can also be the beat, the melody, a sample... or anything of other. In how long you did record this 3rd album? I returned in studio at the end of the year 2006, parès my round with Pussycat Dolls, then I spent 3 months in studio with my team. One passed from super moments, because it was wanted that all is perfect, and that one feels all the energy which one put in this album, by listening to it. Which are waitings compared to this album? I want that people know who I am by listening to my album, I want to open with them as an artist and a young woman. I want to produce good music for my public, it is my goal. And now or do you live? In Los Angeles. You still have time you ballader, to make shopping, to leave with your friends? Not really, but as soon as I have one hour or two, I like to go to the cinema, to leave with my best friends, to eat in restaurants... You would like to make a career with the cinema? Completely!! I adore the comedy. I intend to take courses as soon as I would have time of them.
